About Thai Cuisine

It is normally difficult to define Thai Cuisine. As Thailand is reckon to be the crossroad of Asia, where it is surrounded by many different cultures. These cultures have influenced in Thai food which allow Thai food to combine the best of these cuisine including the oriental bites from Chinese, tropical flavour of Malaysian, Coconut sauce from Southern India and aromatic spices of Arabian Food.

The Kingdom of Thailand is also blessed with rich resources from Harvesting inland and from the sea in a form of fish. The most important harvest in Thailand is the harvesting of rice as it seems to grow in most parts of Thailand and have becomes the main features in most Thai dishes. Thai climate is also not just suitable for the growing of rice but also suitable for the varieties of vegetables, fruits, herbs and spices which are all preferred by Thais. Other than vegetables, Thai source of neutricient such as Protein are from meats and also from fish from both seawater and rivers

The art of Thai cookery have been regarded as a main part of Thai culture for centuries but it is not known to be in print until after the First World War Even though the recipe of Thai cooking have started to be in print then, it is not widely circulated and not known to many. The fine Thai cookery only started to gain wide popularity since only two decades ago where it started to spread widely all over the world. Since then, Thai cuisine has become even more popular with ever-rising awareness and popularity. This can be seen with the rising number of Thai restaurant all over the world without the sign of stopping of its popularity with the foreigners and the native who have been living abroad.

As Thai cookery became a major part of Thai culture, it also leads to a development in Thai traditional in a way they are served and enjoy. In the old days, Thai custom usually involve eating meals together as a family. They would sit on a floor on top of a mattress. Food is served as Main courses as Thai do not have Starter like the Western cultures. Main course are served with Steamed rice, a jug of clean water. Desserts are served mainly as fruit which will not be brought to the meal until the main course is finished. However, the culture has since change as Foreigners start coming into Thailand and this lead to Thais adopting the western ways of eating. The influence is shown as Thais have since change to eating from the dining table rather than sitting on the mattress etc. Even though Thais have received some influence from Western, not all the culture is lost. In most family today, they still have not adopt the western way of eating starter then main courses, Instead soup, such as Tom Yum Kung (Popular spicy Soup) is served with the main courses rather than separate.
